Glad to see 8 emerge from their long stay in last. WBIR is still where I go for news, but I think 8 consistantly does a solid job and I watch their 7 PM news almost every night. By watching WBIR at 6 and WVLT at 7, I think I get a much broader picture of what's going on in East Tennessee.

I do disagree with your thought on Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News. While I think Katie will do a good job, I don't believe she will provide a prolonged bump in the ratings. It is true that CBSEN has been on the rise recently, NBC's News with Brian Williams has been flat in the ratings with the bump in CBS coming at the expense of the anchor merry-go-round at ABC. The slide has continued since Gibson was named anchor full time.

I think over the next year, you may see Couric's Evening News become a solid #2 to NBC and Brian Williams, but the only true heir to the previous generation of anchors will remain on top.
